Thirlmere Lakes National Park has an area of 630 hectares, is situated on the
Southern Tablelands of NSW and is 105 kilometres south of Sydney. The
principal feature is five connected fresh water lakes. This system is almost
unique in the Sydney region and therefore has great ecological interest and
value. Over 130 bird species have been recorded in the Park. There are two
picnic areas beside the two main lakes. The picnic areas are looking the worse
for wear but the National Parks and Wildlife Service have rejuvenation plans
afoot. Although this is a small National Park it shares a boundary with Nattai
National Park with an area of 50,000 hectares.
